You know when some things are just meant to be. I mean beyond a reasonable doubt. Like…..I dunno…..SERENDIPITY! (Which amazingly enough is the also the name of a fabulous restaurant in NYC that has yummy yummy food and so of course I was MEANT to eat there).
Well, everything about meeting James and Emily was fate as well. Because one day….while sitting in a NYC hotel room I got an email. A bride inquiring about her wedding. (Shocker, right?) And so I email back that I am in NYC at the moment but would love to chat. To which she emails back that she is in NYC TOO!!!!! In fact, she lives there. Uh, hello fate, nice to see you again….we run into each other a lot don’t we?
Well then we absolutely HAD to get together for drinks. (Which by the way was a fab little beer garden in the west village. I would tell you the name….but that escapes me at the moment) We had a great time getting to know them, learning their story, how they met in Ohio, and their journey to NYC. In fact I loved it so much I kinda wanted to be them….a bit…..for a few days maybe? That would be great.
So I think you should hear how they met. A little bit of a backgroud…..Emily is a clothing designer! Uh, yeah, I know, seriously, her style makes me drool. I mean literally….I hide it really well though. And I kinda want her as a BFF. Because then we could go shopping….. (Ignore the “noooooooooo” coming from the background. That’s just Travis clutching the credit cards.)
Ok so here is the story straight from the source:
My first week interning at abercrombie & fitch design studio, a girl invited me to go Cabrewing (canoeing with beer- an Ohio thing I guess!) with a group of people from work. I showed up at her house.and I didn’t know anybody, so I brought my sister as my wing woman. We approached the house, and were thankful to be immediately greeted by a very tall and very cute, friendly guy. This polite, handsome guy was James! We drove together to the canoeing trip, flirting the whole time! Even when my sister and I had a mishap and flipped our canoe, James was right there to rescue me, her, and all the beer:) he won my heart! His version, is that he was waiting on the porch of this house for cute girls to show up- and then I showed up! Haha
Isn’t that toooooooo adorable? I mean I think it was pulled right from a romantic comedy. It would be a fabulous scene don’t you think? (Hollywood, are you out there? Guy rescues girl in overturned canoe? What could be better than that??
So when we started talking about their engagement session I knew 2 things for sure…..
1) The session must involve NYC! I love it, they love it, woot!
2) The session must involve a boat and water. Good thing NYC has that too!
As much as they love their NYC life I wanted to show that. Both the soft fun side in Central Park and the edgier, stuff at night in the village.

Sometimes the most telling part of a relationship, and the most interesting, is the moment one person realizes that the other is “the one”. I mean if you think about it….don’t you always love that part of the movie. It’s when the music spikes and the emotion is at the highest point.
So I asked Emily….when did she know James was “the one”?
In June 2004, I moved to Italy for a year, not sure when we would even see each other again. The moments leading up to the move, James was so supportive, encouraging, loving, and understanding that I knew our relationship would stand the test of distance and time.

And then I asked James…..when did he know Emily was “the one”?
I took a trip to Florence, Italy to visit Emily in November, after being apart for 5 long months. The moment I saw her after so long I realized I loved this girl more than ever. Italy is a magical place like that!
Oh and btw, did you notice that both moments had something to do with ITALY??? OMG. It really is a movie. Dear Hollywood, please pay attention here. You’re next script is being written. Oh, and fate? Are you still there? Can I go to Italy too? Puhhhhleeeeeaaaaassseeee?????? I would like to order up strolls through venice, tours through rome, and of couse wine tasting.
Ooops….I got a bit off track….back to James and Emily.

Did you like this? I did. Everything about it. And their wedding is ALMOST HERE!!!! Stay tuned!
