Hanging with the Best | WEVA 2010

So this blog post is coming to you from the great state of FLORIDA!!!

No, we haven’t moved yet.:PWe are here in Orlando at the Dolphin Resort at Walt Disney World for the 20th Annual WEVA Convention. This where all the best of the best wedding cinematographers come to learn, grow, compete, and spend money!

This year, Travis was asked to speak and he will be doing an awesome seminar tomorrow on video editing. The title is “Editing is Sexy Too!” However, as much as the title may lead you to think not, he will, sadly, be wearing his shirt still.  I think it would be MUCH sexier without it!

Anyway, more on that to come later but for today I thought you all might like to see a picture from our room. Apparently, Florida heard we were coming and decided to pay a little practical joke and took away the sun!!!:(

W-A-L-K

Should we go for a w-a-l-k?

Yes, he spelled it. Why? Because our little furry children know exactly what that word means. And then they go crazy.

I don’t know. I’m kind of tired.

He smiles a great big grin and then…

Come on. Let’s go for a walk!

He says this a bit louder, with lots of emphasis on the last word. Sam & Annie swing around to look at us. Did he say what we think he said? (Yes I read dog minds). He turns to the dogs.

What do you guys think? Should we go for a walk?

All heck breaks loose! Barking and running and jumping and barking. And it is out of control. Complete chaos. And he is laughing because it really is hilarious.

He did this on purpose. Because he knows, that I can’t say no to this. At this point, if we didn’t go, I would be the worse mom in the world. And walks are their favorite thing in the whole world. We don’t even get this kind of reaction for treats. I just can’t resist. In fact, I feel rather guilty for even trying to get out of it.

So off we go. Big Dog, Little Dog, 2 leashes, comfy shoes, holding hands, and I am again reminded why this moment is so special. Right now I am connected to my family. Whether its cloudy or sunny I am happy in this place.

This is our time. No one else’s. No phones. No email. No computer. Just us. Talking, dreaming of the future, sharing our day, running through the park with our “kids.” This is what I love. This is life.

Life In The Fast Lane | Painting Perfection

I’ll be the first one to tell you I don’t know much about cars.  I can change a tire and change the oil, but that’s about as far as it goes.  I’ve just never had that gift, that knack, for being able to pop the hood and get things done.

But that never stopped me from having favorite dream cars.  I still remember the first time I saw a centerfold spread of a silver Porsche 911 when I was 14.  I fell in love .. and to this day a part of me still wants that Porsche.

As much as I enjoyed staring at that centerfold pinned to my wall as a teen, my first car ‘love’ was actually the famed Cobra.  It all started with the song “Hey, Little Cobra” by The Rip Chords, which I no doubt heard on some dreadfully-long road trip with the parents while they listened to the “golden oldies”.  The song was catchy, and the car sounded cool.  I was hooked … and when I actually got to see my first Cobra it was instantly my first dream car.  How could you not love this car?

So when I walked into Charley Hutton’s auto shop yesterday I was thrilled to see the legend car from my childhood.  Speaking of legends, when I walked into Charley’s shop I had no idea he was a legend.  I knew he was known.  I knew he’d been on TV (TLC’s Overhaulin’).  I knew he had a team of sponsors behind him.  I just didn’t know he was ‘the man’.

But Charley is ‘the man’.  The work he does on automobile is just downright gorgeous.  He’s a perfectionist, and I can totally relate.  I could also relate because Charley is just a really nice and polite, down-to-earth kind of guy.  I was there to film him and his shop for a sponsor promo, and afterwards I got have lunch with him.  It’s just so refreshing to meet someone with such talent and success, and find out they don’t have an ego the size of Texas.  A lot of people out there could learn a lot from Charley Hutton, and I’m not talking about paintjobs.
