Working for yourself is missing a critical element

So today I got ready.  Totally ready.  I mean a full outfit (casual dress, cute belt, statement necklace, high heeled boots) did hair and makeup (curling iron-not ponytail.) and I went to work.

Where I -ironically enough – work alone in a back office with no windows that I get too through a back hallway where I see no one all day.  I do have appointments though.  Two PHONE appointments.

And I found myself thinking….. am I crazy getting all ready for no one?  Am I losing my mind.  Is it crazy to think about what to wear tomorrow (actually been thinking about for a few days)  because I’m actually going out???  (I have a doctor’s appointment)

But honestly I’m tired of shorts and top and flip flops.  I love all things fashion.  I love putting together outfits and shopping.  I am totally, completely, absolutely, a girl.

But the real question is ……  If you look awesome but there is no one around to see it…..did it really happen?  Is it worth it?  Am I crazy? Discuss.

Jaime - You’re hilarious Candice! I’m sure Jason would love it if I got out of my sweats and flip flops every once in a while too. Does it count if my sweats have some bling?November 5, 2011 – 8:04 pm

ellen - No you’re not loosing your mind! It’s all too easy to come to work dressed in PJs – our studio is on our property, so on days with no shoots all I see is my partner and the delivery man. But it just feels better to at least make a bit of an effort to look nice! As long as my hair looks good and I’m wearing nice shoes or boots, I feel so much better.November 5, 2011 – 5:30 am

Zoe - We are in the image business so it IS importan that we think about our own image. Even for phone appointments. I genuinely believe how we dress impacts on how we put ourselves across. And who knows who you might bump into en route to the office – every moment in public is a potential networking moment. Do you want that to be one where you’re dressed casually? I’m with you 100%November 5, 2011 – 5:08 am

Jason Kaczorowski - I don’t look at women – dressed up or not. I’m married. But I couldn’t help but wonder what they’re building next to you in that photo? Setting up already for Art Basel? BTW, I’d never get tired of shorts/flip-flops. You’re welcome to trade winters with me here in Chicago. You’d look great bundled up in the latest winter fashions. I hear hats, mittens and scarf accessories calling your name! ;) November 4, 2011 – 2:56 pm

Marc Percy - That’s why you take pictures… as proof! ;-)

It’s nice to have the option to do short/top or to get dressed up and not have to do one or the other.November 4, 2011 – 2:08 pm

Travis Cossel - Have to agree with Sarah on this one! d;-)November 4, 2011 – 2:06 pm

Sarah VV - NO!! Your husby will see you and i’m sure he will just love it! :) November 4, 2011 – 12:25 pm

A Puppy Love 4th of July Wedding

Sometimes it’s extra sweet to have the opportunity to film a wedding. That was definitely the case with Erik and Janna. Janna fell in love with our wedding films but initially didn’t have room in her budget for us. But next thing we knew we were in Connecticut meeting an awesome puppy named Remy and filming Janna as she became a bride on her wedding day. Can I just say I love my job and I love our couples!

Anyways, enjoy the highlights from their 4th of July beach wedding in Connecticut!

New York Wedding + The Trump Soho

I’m always excited to shoot a wedding in New York. Weddings have so much energy and New York is like it’s own big ball of energy. So a wedding in New York is like … lots of energy, you know?

Now Nick and Amy have a special element that contributes even more energy to their wedding … 4 kids. The children’s are Nick’s, 1 boy and 3 girls, but you wouldn’t know it with how they act towards Amy. They love Amy and Amy loves them as if nothing else in the world matters. It’s a pretty awesome thing to see.

So as I prepared to film Nick and Amy’s wedding at the Trump Soho in New York I knew what I wanted. I wanted to capture Nick and Amy, but I also wanted to capture their special new family … and also capture the energy of that family .. the wedding … and of course, New York City.

Now this wedding was on my birthday, and I had never filmed an event on my birthday before. There was a small part of me that wondered if I would regret not taking the day off, but in the end, I didn’t. Nick and Amy had such an awesome wedding and were such awesome people that I wanted to edit their highlights video that night.

Well, I didn’t. My wife Candice showed up and took me out for a birthday drink after the wedding, but I did film some more of NYC on the way back to the hotel after that (much to her dismay, lol). But I’m so glad I did as it gave me the material to sandwich the energy of the wedding with the energy of the city. Enjoy!
